Ligue 1 Team Of The Week: Round 18

Bordeaux, Nancy and Lille all excelled this week, so it is not a great surprise that their players dominate Goal.com's best XI on the final weekend before Christmas...

Ligue 1: Bordeaux's Yoann Gourcuff and David Bellion celebrate a goal against Le Havre.
Goalkeeper

Jeremie Janot (Saint-Etienne):
Life was never going to be easy for les Verts against Olympique de Marseille after Stathis Tavlaridis was dismissed after eight minutes. They came under pressure from OM, but Janot earned them a point with some superb work in goal to maintain a clean sheet.

Defence

Michael Chretien (Nancy):
Has missed much of this campaign due to injury and will be frustrated with the coming winter break. Delivered a strong performance at right-back for ASNL, shutting out Montpellier positively.

Petter Hansson (Stade Rennais):
Rennes’ defence has been a little disappointing this term, showing an uncharacteristic lack of consistency. Les Rouge et Noir’s rearguard was back towards its best on Saturday as Paris Saint-Germain were shut out, and Hansson was their central pillar.

Milan Bisevac (Valenciennes):
Another terrific performance from the VA centre-back helped earn his side a clean sheet and a point against Racing Club de Lens in a fixture in which the defences excelled. Bisevac was arguably the outstanding figure.

Djimi Traore (Monaco):
The former Liverpool man produced a very solid performance to seriously limited the effectiveness of Lyon’s Sidney Govou. Moreover, he aided les Monegasques’ goal in a 1-1 draw.

Midfield

Rio Mavuba (Lille):
Protected Lille’s defence stubbornly against Le Mans and also showed a willingness to push forward. With so much attacking talent in les Dogues, his abilities as a holding midfielder are especially cherished.

Benoit Pedretti (Auxerre):
Has recently expressed his desire to return to the international scene and is certainly providing Raymond Domenech with food for thought due to his consistent club-level showings. Strong against Toulouse in a 1-1 weekend draw, he will rue a couple of headed chances that were allowed to escape him.

Issiar Dia (Nancy):
Another fine performance from the 22-year-old Senegal international, who was the scourge of Montpellier this weekend. Much of ASNL’s best play flowed through him, and he even opened the scoring.

Yoann Gourcuff (Girondins de Bordeaux):
Head coach Laurent Blanc had said only the day before that the young midfielder was lacking in a little confidence, but Gourcuff didn’t show it on Saturday, when he picked apart Lorient single-handedly. He plundered two assists and registered a goal for himself.

Eden Hazard (Lille): Played the best part of 80 minutes against Le Mans on Sunday and tore them to shreds. Scored one and assisted two as LOSC’s searing form continued.

Attack

David Bellion (Girondins de Bordeaux):
Something of a surprise starter against Lorient, Bellion played a significant role in his side’s victory, going through on goal twice on the first half to record a cool brace, setting les Girondins en route to a simple 4-1 victory.
