Lyon 0-1 Bordeaux: Marouane Chamakh Stuns Lyonnais As Champions Roll On
The Bordelaise are four points clear at the top...
Lyon succumbed to a 1-0 home defeat to an ambitious Bordeaux side who put their championship credentials on the table with a deserved win.
Although Lyon enjoyed periods of pressure, especially in midfield, Bordeaux's class on the evening resulted in a fine headed goal from Marouane Chamakh right at the death.
In the early stages Lisandro Lopez had two fine chances, first from a Reveillere cross and then a Pjanic through ball, but spurned both.
But Bordeaux began to fight back and on the half hour mark forced a superb save from Hugo Lloris through Marouane Chamakh's excellent downward header after a Plasil cross.
Lyon's physical play in midfield wrought three yellow cards in six minutes, Cris, Kallstrom and Gonalons entering the referee's book, but they could not prevent the half from ending with Gourcuff testing Lloris after Chamakh's assist.
After the break Bordeaux appeared with renewed confidence, Gourcuff coming close with a drilled effort and the likes of Fernando beginning the boss the midfield.
Against the run of play Lyon could have taken the lead fifteen minutes from time as Gonalons launched a snapshot goalwards, but Carrasso parried it clear under pressure.
Right afterwards Chamakh missed an absolute sitter as Cris failed to deal with a loose ball in the box and substitute Jussie squared it, only for the forward to fire way over the bar.
But the Moroccan paid his debts and then some with a wonderful headed goal for the winner, reaching Gouffran's cross at the far post and rising above Reveillere to nod home.
Bordeaux are now four points clear of Montpellier at the top of Ligue 1, albeit having played a game more. Lyon, meanwhile, are eight points behind the leaders on 26 and sit an ignominious 9th after six Ligue 1 games without a win.
