Bordeaux’s Wendel Aiming For ‘Perfect’ Win In Champions League Over Bayern Munich
The 27-year-old is aiming to clinch a spot in the knock-out phase on Tuesday evening...
Les Girondins’ form in Europe cannot be faulted thus far, with two wins and a draw taking them to the top of Group A, ahead of the Bavarian side, Serie A giants Juventus and Israeli outfit Maccabi Haifa. Victory would therefore take them to the knockout stage, and that is exactly what Wendel is targeting.
“It we succeed, that would be perfect,” he told the club’s official website. “In any case, we’ll go to try and get a result.”
However, the set piece dangerman is aware of the threat that Die Roten pose to his side, describing the fixture as “complicated as ever in the Champions League”.
“We're playing against a team that plays well,” he noted. “It will be difficult, despite [Bayern’s] suspended players [Daniel Van Buyten and Thomas Mueller]. They will play at home, supported by their fans.
“For us, an intelligent game will bring rewards.”
Success in Munich would carry les Girondins six points clear of Bayern. Though there would still be six points available for the Bundesliga side to win, Laurent Blanc’s men could not finish below the Germans because of their superior head-to-head record and would therefore be qualified.
