Bordeaux Ace Wendel: Monaco Midfielder Nene Is The Best In Ligue 1
Nene has been earning rave reviews in the early stages of the season, and Wendel is only too happy to lavish further praise on his countryman...
Brazilian offensive midfielder Wendel is likely to be handed a starting berth when his Girondins de Bordeaux side tackle Monaco in Ligue 1 on Saturday evening, and he believes that les Monegasques boast Le Championnat’s most in-form player at the present time.
Left sided attacking midfielder Nene has struck nine times in league play this season, striking a match-winning double against Boulogne-Sur-Mer last weekend. Indeed, he has frequently caught the eye since returning from Espanyol this summer, with his set-plays particularly noted for their potency.
“I know Nene a little,” Wendel told the AFP news agency. “We played in the same Santos team in Brazil.
“This year he is the best shooter from free kicks. He’s scored four and I’m still on zero. I must catch him as quickly as possible.
“[He’s] the best player in the French league right now.”
Bordeaux may boast a formidable home record, but les Monegasques are uninhibited, with Sebastien Puygrenier aiming to end their two year unbeaten home run in league play.
“For me, Bordeaux are the best team in Ligue 1,” he explained to France Football. “I expect a big game. We play the leaders but we go to win.”
Monaco lie second in Ligue 1, trailing les Girondins by only a point. Guy Lacombe’s side will go top if they win on Saturday evening.
