Paris Saint-Germain & Sochaux Move To Reject Swine Flu Rumours
PSG have stated that they are well on top of their H1N1 problem, while les Lionceaux claim that they have never had an issue with the illness...
Amid reports to the contrary, Paris Saint-Germain have announced that there have been no new cases of swine flu amongst their squad, while fellow Ligue 1 outfit Sochaux have dismissed suggestions that a handful of their players are suffering from the H1N1 virus.
Swine flu has been something of a watchword in France over the last week, as the Clasico between Olympique de Marseille and Paris Saint-Germain was postponed because four PSG players – Ludovic Giuly, Mamadou Sakho, Jeremy Clement and Loris Arnaud - were carrying the virus.
Speaking to L’Equipe, Dr. Eric Rolland of the capital club has said that the infected men are recovering well and that there have been no new cases of the illness in the squad.
“The results are quite favourable,” he said. “The patients felt good [on Wednesday]. There are no other cases. We are continuing to do everything to eradicate the virus in the squad. Players are taking Tamiflu and it is assumed that for each individual, the virus is eradicated after three days of treatment and quarantine.”
Meanwhile, further to the east of the country, there were suggestions that Sochaux players Yassin Mikari, Bojan Jokic and Ivan Stevanovic could also have contracted the illness. President Alexandre Lacombe has moved swiftly to shrug off such thoughts.
“These three players have not been quarantined. On Monday, as the squad enjoyed a rest day, they went walking in Switzerland!” he said.
Ironically, Sochaux will host Paris Saint-Germain in Sunday’s showcase match.
