Monaco To Sweat On Park Chu-Young’s Fitness Ahead Of Bordeaux Clash
First meets second at the Stade Chaban-Delmas on Saturday evening, but effervescent Monegasque forward Park may not be involved. There is also a question mark over Cedric Mongongu's fitness...
Monaco have announced that South Korean striker Park Chu-Young is a big doubt for Saturday’s encounter against table toppers Girondins de Bordeaux due to a foot problem.
The 24-year-old striker has been a central part of les Monegasques’ climb to second in Ligue 1, scoring three times in the opening ten games of the season and adding two assists to that tally.
When he initially signed from FC Seoul, his form was rather erratic, but he has since settled into a steady rhythm and has become an integral part of the club’s arsenal.
Head coach Guy Lacombe, whose side have won all of their last three matches and seven out of their ten in Le Championnat thus far, may also have to do without burgeoning central defender Cedric Mongongu. A solid 20-year-old Congo international, he is regarded as one of the most promising young defenders in the country, though he also has a foot problem.
“I hope to have both players,” the moustachioed trainer explained to France Football. “I’m more optimistic over Cedric than Chu.”
One man who has been a talking point in the principality since the start of the season is Nene, whose explosive form has seen him register nine goals this season. “He's greatly respected in the squad, and not just for what he does on the pitch... he's a great lad and he works so hard in training,” Lacombe said, according to Ligue 1’s official website.
Definitely missing Saturday evening’s first against second clash will be Icelandic attacker Eidur Gudjohnsen, who has struggled to make a great impression at the club since signing on a free transfer from Barcelona at the end of August, and Eduardo Costa, whose tenacity in midfield has helped his side greatly.
