OL's Brazilian midfielder has followed in the footsteps of club legend Juninho and current team-mate Cris by being called into the Selecao. He will join the likes of Kaka for November's friendly matches...
The attacking midfielder previously enjoyed a strong campaign with Lille but felt that he could not advance his career on the international stage while playing with a club outside of the eye of those who matter in his homeland.
However, Dunga said he has been watching the 26-year-old and has now elected to give him the call for November’s friendlies. This decision has delighted Bastos, who is relatively unknown in his home country
“I expected this selection because the coach had told me he has followed me for a bit and that I would have my chance,” the OL star is quoted as having said in Ouest France.
“I knew I had a chance but I had some doubts because I had an injury and I have not played much.
“I am very happy because I still believed and today is a dream come true. I'm happy but now it's up to me to continue to do everything to continue in the national selection. In any case, I must continue to make beautiful performances with Olympique Lyonnais and then the rest will come.”
Bastos has scored twice in seven Ligue 1 appearances this season. However, he hit14 strikes in 37 games with Lille last term, helping him secure a place in the Goal.com Top 50.
