Sidney Govou Urges Olympique Lyonnais Not To Forget Ligue 1 Games
The attacking midfielder has revealed his disappointment with Saturday's heavy defeat and has told his side that they must rouse themselves for even the most mundane looking of matches...
Les Gones’ defeat came only days after they shocked Liverpool at Anfield, and though the France international thinks that some kind of hangover was inevitable, he is also aware that OL are expected to defeat teams sitting in the relegation zone.
“We must quickly forget this match but we must learn lessons, particularly as our state of mind was a little bit less than average early in the game,” he told local paper Le Progres. “The Champions League is good, but it’s Le Championnat that allows us to move forward, it’s the target of the season, but we must win the small games.”
OL had topped the table going into Saturday’s encounter but now reside in third place after the 4-1 loss, in which former players Loic Remy and Anthony Mounier were central for their opponents. However, should they defeat Saint-Etienne in the derby next Saturday night, they would jump up at least one place because Girondins de Bordeaux and Monaco – the top two in Ligue 1 – square off at the Stade Chaban-Delmas earlier in the evening.
