Claude Makelele may only have been booked during last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Lorient, but the Paris Saint-Germain captain could still be  suspended by French League’s (LFP) disciplinary committee.

It was confirmed on Thursday night that the former French international star will have his tackle on Sigamary Diarra in the first half of the game reviewed. The LFP’s commission for discipline released an official statement explaining, “The Disciplinary Committee has decided to convene Claude Makelele (PSG), for acts of brutality against an opponent during their meeting of October 22, 2009.”

Last weekend’s fixture between Lorient and PSG sparked controversy as home coach Christian Gourcuff suggested that Makelele is overly protected by referees. This drew an angry response from Parisian counterpart Antoine Kombouare, who claimed that Gourcuff needed “a smack in the mouth” for his comments.

The coaches stand trial in front of the National Council of Ethics on October 12 for their part in the incident, and it seems likely that both will be punished.

Makelele is not the only player who could be banned this week as Grenoble teenager Sofiane Feghouli will be present at the same meeting after making an “inappropriate gesture” at the end of the fixture against Auxerre.
