France International Jimmy Briand Pencilled In For November Return
The Stade Rennais striker will return to training in the late autumn period after serious injury…
Stade Rennais have announced that they expect France international forward Jimmy Briand to be back playing by the end of November, although head coach Frederic Antonetti is hedging his bets over the 24-year-old to some extent.
Briand dislocated his left kneecap and damaged ligaments on March 24 in an accidental clash with goalkeeper Cedric Carrasso while training with les Bleus, and it was immediately clear his injury was serious. Initial estimates suggested that he would miss out for around nine months, but Briand is ahead of schedule as the Clairefontaine graduate should return to reserve football in late November, with a first team return possible the following month.
Asked when his charge could be expected back, Antonetti replied, “In late October or early November he should resume training with the professional squad. If everything goes well, he could play with the CFA [reserve team] on November 28 against Ivry.”
Meanwhile, the player is currently convalescing at Piverdiere, Rennes’ training centre.
He will once again be consigned to watch on when his side host Olympique de Marseille at the Stade de la Route de Lorient on Saturday night in one of the most mouth-watering Ligue 1 clashes of the season.
