Andre-Pierre Gignac & Alain Casanova Laud Toulouse After ‘Most Successful’ Game
The prolific forward player may have scored twice against Trabzonspor in Thursday’s 3-1 success, but he has shared out the plaudits with his team-mates.
Toulouse striker Andre-Pierre Gignac and coach Alain Casanova have been united in their description of the club’s 3-1 Europa League victory over Trabzonspor as one of their greatest achievements.
Gignac scored in either half to push Toulouse ahead twice in Trabzon, and Alain Casanova’s men were given a significant cushion in the closing stages of the match, when Fode Mansare registered a third goal deep into stoppage time against the Turks, who were down to ten men by this stage.
“It was a match of great intensity from both sides,” the French international stated to L’Equipe after the match. “Our second half was perfect, scoring a second goal and thwarting them thereafter.”
Casanova was in equally effusive mood.
“Since I’ve been with Toulouse, that’s certainly our most successful game,” he noted. “We were dealing with a quality opponent in a hostile atmosphere. We were able to respond on a technical, tactical, physical
and mental level. The team has reached a plateau.”
Le Tefece will take nothing for granted in the second leg, with Gignac warning, “We must remain vigilant.”
