Arrival Of Bafetimbi Gomis Marks End Of Lyon’s Recruitment – Claude Puel

The French international striker will be OL’s last capture of the summer, according to their general manager.

Olympique Lyonnais completed a swoop for Saint-Etienne forward Bafetimbi Gomis last night, and despite some reports in the French media indicating otherwise, general manager Claude Puel has forcefully stated that the internationally capped player will be the last of OL’s captures in this transfer window.

Puel told Lyon’s official website, “With the arrival of ‘Bafe’ Gomis, our recruitment is closed. There could be a few adjustments in our squad, but none of these will be arrivals. At the end of the season, I asked for three or four players. We got four. We got what we wanted.”

Players that could leave the club include young left-winger Anthony Mounier, who has held his own in the Lyon first team when given the chance, though he has rarely looked spectacular, and Frederic Piquionne, who has flopped badly since joining from Monaco last summer.

Lyon’s transfer push has not been great in terms of quantity, the club have focused heavily on quality, with Gomis’ move to the Stade Gerland the cheapest piece of business les Gones have reportedly carried out this summer. Michel Bastos was purchased for a reported €18m from Lille, while Aly Cissokho (around €15) and Lisandro Lopez (€24m) both switched Porto for OL.

After such investment, and a disappointing third placed finish last time out, Puel will be under significant pressure to claim the league title, despite Olympique de Marseille also spending big this summer.
