Samir Nasri Ready To Play Central Midfield Role For France
The young Arsenal star could be asked to revert back to his original position if Raymond Domenech elects to start with only one holding midfielder in Lithuania.
When Nasri first broke into the Olympique de Marseille team during the 2005-06 season, he was used primarily as a central player by then-coach Jean Fernandez and he is ready to step back in time to aid les Bleus. “I’ve already played that position at Arsenal as well,” he pointed out to L’Equipe. “It’s happened that I’ve had to reposition myself [in the centre] when a match is 0-0.”
Concerns have been made that he is not willing enough to make a concerted defensive effort, but the player moved rapidly to reject these assertions. “I’m not reluctant to make a defensive effort,” he proclaimed. “Is it exhausting to work in both directions? That depends on with whom you are associated. [Mathieu] Flamini and [Cesc] Fabregas were very complimentary last year at Arsenal.
Nasri made his first appearance in the French national shirt two years ago and admitted his experience at international level have, thus far, been somewhat mixed. “There have been good times and less good times,” he conceded. “Over time, I could have had a better status but I have been hampered by injuries.
“Today, I am happy. I play with a big club, I start games and I am regularly called to the national side.”
If Nasri is called to face Lithuania on Saturday, les Bleus could well use a strong performance from the intelligent midfielder as one slip could spell the end of their World Cup hopes.
