Steve Mandanda Uncertain Of French Goalkeeping Position

The Olympique de Marseille goalkeeper has admitted that he does not know if he will start tomorrow night’s friendly against Argentina.

Friendly : Sweden - France, Steve Mandanda (France)
Heading into tomorrow evening’s friendly against Argentina, there is a great deal of uncertainty over who will keep goal for les Bleus. Hugo Lloris of Olympique Lyonnais is widely considered the popular option, however, head coach of the national side Raymond Domenech may well opt to select Olympique de Marseille custodian Steve Mandanda, who was the first pick at the beginning of the season.

Mandanda, who produced an impressive showing at the weekend to shut-out Bordeaux, admits he has as much in the dark as anyone else as to who will start at the Stade Velodrome.

“He [Domenech] has said that he does not have a first choice for the moment,” Mandanda reminded La Provence. “We must keep in mind that detail. I have not heard. If I am not considered as strong then it is normal that I will not play.”

It was Lloris who was selected to play in the last international match and, on his debut, the Lyon stopper impressed as he kept a clean sheet as les Bleus held Uruguay to a scoreless draw.

Such a result would be seen as something of a plus for les Bleus tomorrow evening as their form has been poor of late and Argentina are generally considered a stronger outfit than them at present. Despite this, Mandanda stated that “there is a real unity” in the camp, something France have been missing for quite some time.
