Lille Matched With Lyon Or Marseille In The Coupe De France

Tie of the round in the last 16 of the Coupe de France will undoubtedly be the fixture between Lille OSC and the winner of Wednesday’s match between Olympique Lyonnais and Olympique de Marseille.

Once again the draw for the Coupe de France has thrown up some intriguing possibilities. Ligue 1’s best have rarely been given easy tests this year as they have been handed a succession of banana skins away to lower-ranked opponents. This is once again the case in the last 16 as the only two top-flight sides to be drawn at home will face fellow elite clubs.

Undoubtedly the most eye-catching fixture of the round will be the match between high-flying Lille OSC, who will line-up at home against Olympique de Marseille or Olympique Lyonnais, who face-off on Wednesday night for the right to play in that fixture.

Elsewhere, the Breton derby between Stade Rennais and Lorient promises to be a fascinating encounter. The two sides last met just before Christmas at les Merlus’ Stade Moustoir, when the visitors emerged victorious, winning 2-1 thanks to late goals from Asamoah Gyan and Moussa Sow.

Grenoble, Le Mans and Monaco all face difficult trips to Ligue 2 sides, however, it is Toulouse who will have to negotiate the greatest ‘trap’ of the round as they face a Boulogne-Sur-Mer - a side that are going well in Ligue 2 and that have already dispatched Ligue 1 opposition in the form of Caen.

Paris Saint-Germain have been handed a fixture against third-flight side Rodez while Vitré, the only amateur side left in the competition, travel to Sedan.

The fixtures are due to take place on March 3 and 4.
