Romarantin Enjoy Coupe De France Win Over Nancy
The Coupe de France tends to throw up a number of shocks each season. Romarantin are amongst the top giant killers this year after knocking out Nancy, an event that the amateurs will enjoy.
Saturday evening was historical in the little town of Romarantin, which resides in the Centre region of France, as their local amateur football club knocked out Ligue 1 residents Nancy on penalty kicks in the Coupe de France. Tied goalless at full-time, the fourth-flight side won through a penalty shoot-out, with goalkeeper Romuald Ardeois very much the hero.
“It's really great but this team does not amaze me,” Jean Acédo, head coach of the CFA outfit, told the press after the match before going on to praise his goalkeeper.
“Romu was decisive. Given the stops he made during the game, I didn’t think it could happen for us in the shoot-out.
“It’s magical and fantastic, especially when you consider the weaknesses we were experiencing only a few months ago.”
Acédo’s goalkeeper was equally pleased. “Of course, when the penalties came, I was hoping I could save them,” the veteran custodian stated. “Everything went well in that it was tough to play on such a [frozen] pitch. The adventure continues; this was the greatest achievement in my time with the club.”
Romarantin have been handed a home tie once again in the draw for the last 32, with Ligue 2 side Sedan their opponents.
