Top Clubs Circle Over Lens Starlet Kévin Monnet-Paquet
Arsenal and Fiorentina are the latest in a succession of big name clubs to be linked with a move for Lens’ rising star, Kévin Monnet-Paquet, who is busy helping Racing Club Lens win promotion back to Ligue 1.
Although Juve appear to have fallen out of the running for the player a little, his performances in helping les Sang et Or to the summit of France’s second flight have been widely recognised. A wide offensive player, ‘KMP’ has top scored for Lens this season by bagging seven league goals and has become an indispensible player to the northern side.
His exploits have certainly not gone unnoticed as Olympique de Marseille, Paris Saint-Germain and Lille OSC are French clubs rumoured to be lining up bids while Arsenal and Fiorentina would appear to lead the chase from abroad according to local paper La Voix du Nord. Indeed, it is even suggested that the Viola have tentatively bid €2 million plus half of the rights to N'Diaye Papa Waigo.
Despite their financial difficulties, Lens have, thus far been unmoved. The team coached by Jean-Guy Wallemme have plenty of other assets to sell and, with Stoke seriously considering an offer for Aruna Dindane and Nice in the market for Julien Sablé, funds should not prove too difficult to raise.
At the present time it seems likely that Monnet-Paquet will remain with Lens until the end of the season before a decision is taken over his future at that juncture.
