Wiltord Move In Limbo
Sylvain Wiltord’s future at Rennes remains unclear today as his Breton employers have denied that Nantes have been in touch with them with regards to signings the player…
For two months now, there has been little clear about Sylvain Wiltord’s
immediate future. Having returned to preseason training expecting to be
an integral part of les Rouges et Noirs’ squad, Wiltord was taken aback
when he was told he was to become a bit-part player.
Angry and frustrated, he was forced to train on his own as the row between the club and the player escalated. Although Wiltord has been used a number of times this season, largely in the ‘minor’ matches, he remains dissatisfied.
Sochaux were rumoured to be interested in the player around the close of the transfer window while New York Red Bulls were also considering a move, however, it is Nantes who have continued their steady interest in the player.
Rumours rose in l’Equipe last night that les Canaris may be willing to sign Wiltord as a ‘joker’ but these claims have been dismissed by the club.
Speaking to newspaper Sud-Ouest, Pierre Dréossi explained that there had been “no contact with Nantes” while Christian Larièpe, chief technical officer at Nantes, did not dismiss a move, stating, “If we must sign an attacker, it is clear that Sylvain Wiltord is of interest to us.”
At present, Nantes are a side on the verge of crisis. Last weekend’s 3-0 defeat at Caen was all too easy and les Canaris have won only one of their opening seven league matches, failing to look impressive on any occasions.
