The Saints manager has confirmed he will stay at the club following the departure of chairman Nicola Cortese.

Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed he will stay at the club despite the departure of chairman Nicola Cortese.

The Argentine's future at St Mary's was left in doubt after Cortese tendered his resignation on Thiursday due to differences in opinion with owner Katharina Liebherr over short and long-term planning at the club.

However, the 41-year-old has quickly moved to quash speculation that he could leave Southampton.

"I am staying as Southampton manager," he told reporters. "I have a professional responsibility to everyone at the club and the fans.

"I want to show my gratitude to Cortese, he believed in me and brought me and my staff to the club."

Pochettino claimed that he would leave the club if Cortese resigned from Southampton eight months ago, but insists the circumstances have since changed.

"Eight months ago was a different situation. I did say then I would leave, now is different - we are in the middle of process," he said.

"I am fully committed to these players, to the staff and to these supporters. It would make no sense to leave this path.

"Nicola knows my of decision. I have a commitment to the players and staff."

The Argentine also revealed that he has spoken to club owner Katharina Liebherr since Cortese's resignation and has been given her full backing.

He said: "I have met with the owner and she says she has full trust in me and my staff and gave me her full support."
