Manchester City-Arsenal Betting Preview: Pellegrini's men to prove their title credentials

The hosts have been a real force to contend with at the Etihad Stadium this season and Al Hain-Cole expects them to lay down the gauntlet with a big win over their title rivals
After securing a memorable 3-2 Champions League win over Bayern Munich on Tuesday, Manchester City will be looking to make up ground in the title race when they welcome leaders Arsenal to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Manuel Pellegrini has overseen seven consecutive Premier League home wins since taking over in the summer and is available at 4/5 (1.80) with Paddy Power to move his side to within three points of the summit with another victory in this one.

The Gunners followed up last Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Everton with a 2-0 midweek defeat away to Napoli, but are on offer at 7/2 (4.50) to return to winning ways in eye-catching style here.

The sides played out a 1-1 draw in last season’s corresponding fixture and you can get odds of 13/5 (3.60) on them sharing the spoils once again this time.

Despite their blistering form so far this season, few are willing to take the visitors’ prospects as genuine title contenders completely seriously, with Saturday’s opponents still seen as favourites regardless of the six-point deficit currently separating them from top spot.

The reason for this was underlined explicitly during the recent Champions League fixtures, when an under strength City side came back from two goals down to secure a 3-2 away win against the best team in Europe, while Arsene Wenger’s men surrendered first place in their group with defeat in Italy.

Having already comprehensively beaten Manchester United and Tottenham in front of their own fans, Pellegrini’s side have shown an appetite for the big games that some accuse Arsenal of lacking, given their defeats against Dortmund, Chelsea, Manchester United and Napoli so far this campaign.

With 29 goals scored and just two conceded in seven home games, it is difficult to see any side standing in Manchester City’s way in their own back yard, and those 4/5 (1.80) odds are therefore not to be missed on them gaining ground in the title race with a precious three points.

Meanwhile, Paddy Power’s offer to refund all losing first goalscorer bets, should Olivier Giroud score anytime, is particularly attractive considering the Frenchman has struck seven goals in 14 league games this season.

With this in mind, odds of 4/1 (5.00) are not to be missed on Sergio Aguero opening the scoring for the third time in four games, having hit the back of the net 17 times in his last 17 games for the club.
