Fulham-Tottenham Betting Preview: Spurs to get among the goals at Craven Cottage

Andre Villas-Boas' men have been criticised for a lack of cutting edge this season, but Al Hain-Cole expects them to overcome the Cottagers' resistance on Wednesday
After Martin Jol’s much-anticipated departure at the weekend, Fulham begin life under new boss Rene Meulensteen with a London derby against Tottenham on Wednesday.

Having lost six consecutive matches in all competitions, Jol’s dismissal comes as a surprise to nobody, and his replacement is available at 4/1 (5.00) with Betway to get off to a winning start at Craven Cottage.

Andre Villas-Boas eased some of the pressure on his own shoulders with a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Manchester United on Sunday and his side are clear 13/20 (1.65) favourites to end a four-match Premier League winless streak this evening.

There have been no draws in any of the last eight meetings between these sides, but you can get odds of 11/4 (3.75) on the hosts recording just their second stalemate of the league season in this one.

If one of the major gripes with Spurs’ performances this season has been a lack of excitement, then Sunday’s draw against the champions must surely have gone some way to correcting that.

In fact, for all their alleged lack of cutting edge, Villas-Boas’ men have scored at least twice in five of their last seven games on the road, perhaps unleashed from the nervous atmosphere that their boss complained about at White Hart Lane.

Whatever the case, the visitors will be confident of improving on their unimpressive goal tally against a side who have conceded 17 goals in their last six games, and odds of 4/5 (1.80) look too good to pass up on them striking at least twice tonight.

That bet would have paid out in each of Fulham’s last six matches, as well as three of the last four encounters between the sides.

However, you have to expect Meulensteen’s arrival to inspire some sort of fight in the home side, and it would be no surprise if they followed in the footsteps of Crystal Palace, Swansea, Cardiff, West Ham and Hull in keeping the scores level until half-time.

With this in mind, odds of 13/4 (4.25) are well worth a look on Tottenham coming out on top after going in level at the break, particularly as the hosts have not conceded a first-half goal in either of their last two matches.
