The Belgium international hobbled off in the field against Everton and was subsequently ruled out of his nation's World Cup qualifiers, while Jack Rodwell is back in contention

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany will miss his side's trip to West Ham on Saturday with a thigh injury.

The Belgian was ruled out of his country's final two World Cup qualifiers after picking up the problem in City's 3-1 win over Everton earlier this month.

Kompany was withdrawn from that game after 34 minutes and manager Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed that he will be without the 27-year-old for the trip to Upton Park.

"Vincent is working hard. He is not ready to play but I hope that next week he will do," Pellegrini said on Friday.

"(Martin) Demichelis played 45 minutes with the Under-21s on Wednesday, I think he's in the same shape as Kompany, I hope that next week he'll be ready."

However, Pellegrini can call on Jack Rodwell in midfield after the former Everton man recovered from a hamstring injury.

"Jack Rodwell has no problems, he is fit," the Chilean added.
