Everton loanee Romelu Lukaku says that he has "a point to prove" as he aims to show his credentials to lead the line for Chelsea.
Despite insisting that it was his decision to leave Stamford Bridge, the youngster is adamant that he can become the focal point for the Europa League winners but is happy to be getting as many games as possible following last year's spell with West Brom.
"After last year I felt I deserved a chance, as I did the season before going to West Brom," Lukaku told the press. "I went to West Brom and did well. I have a point to prove to myself and to Chelsea to show that I can be No.1.
"I'm not as frustrated as I was when I was younger," he added of his lack of opportunities at his parent club. "The most important thing is to do well for this club and establish myself as quickly as possible.
"There has been big respect from Everton, they made a big effort for me and have helped me and my family settle in quickly, and I want to help them."
Despite 17 goals during his time at the Hawthorns, the Belgian was keen to ensure that he did not get lost in the crowd even before Chelsea's signature of Samuel Eto'o from Anzhi.
"I decided to leave before that," he explained. "I thought maybe I needed one more season [on loan]. I didn't want to fall into the background so that one day people would say: 'Romelu Lukaku - he had that good season with West Brom, didn't he?'
"I had very good conversations with the Chelsea manager and he understands me completely. When I told him, he was OK with my decision.
"I always said that by 21 I wanted to be one of the best players and now I'm 20 and I think this is the year of the confirmation. For me to confirm that status it's better for me to go out on loan than maybe play one in three games, especially in a World Cup year.
"There were other clubs interested, a lot of Premier League clubs and also foreign teams, but I was convinced Everton was the right place. It's just that little step closer to the top teams. When you do well for a team like Everton it's easier to go into a top team and establish yourself."
