The 34-year-old has called on Manchester United to bounce back in Sunday's Community Shield clash with Wigan and praised the performance of youngster Adnan Januzaj

Rio Ferdinand believes Manchester United's 3-1 loss to Sevilla in his testimonial match will mean little if they beat Wigan Athletic in the Community Shield on Sunday.

United held a testimonial for Ferdinand at Old Trafford on Friday but could not give the veteran defender a victory as the Liga club stunned the hosts to win by two goals.

But with a match against the FA Cup winners to look forward to, Ferdinand claims minds will be refocused quickly.

"We wanted to win [on Friday] and we are not happy to lose," Ferdinand told reporters.

"But on Sunday we will make sure we go down there to win. Not many players get to play 10 years at one club and I will be proud when I have finished but before that I have got things to win."

The result against Sevilla was another blow for new United boss David Moyes, who has seen the reigning Premier League champions lose twice and draw two more games in their six pre-season fixtures under his watch.

But Ferdinand believes Moyes has done a good job bringing through some of United's younger brigade, including Jesse Lingard and Adnan Januzaj - who was a standout performer versus Sevilla - and has backed the Scottish manager to succeed at Old Trafford.

"Adnan was our best player tonight," Ferdinand said.

"That is fantastic for the manager. We have a new manager in place and everyone needs to get behind him."
