The first Super Sunday of the season sees the Rovers take on the Rams in the Championship, with our tipster backing the home side to get their season off to a flyer
Nigel Clough has done a good job at Derby, but he knows his side need to be pushing towards the top six this season and show some progression. Blackburn, on the other hand, flirted with back-to-back relegations last term but managed to find vital victories in the final few weeks to finish in 17th, four points above the drop zone.
Derby come into this match off the back of a fantastic pre-season and should be full of confidence. The Rams were only beaten once, winning their other four matches, scoring 16 goals in the five pre-season fixtures.
Clough’s men were strong at home at the start of the season last year, being beaten only once in their first 11 home Championship matches and BetVictor price the midlands side at 23/20 (2.15) to take all three points here.
Blackburn had a mixed pre-season this summer, winning two, losing one and drawing one fixture. This has been Gary Bowyer’s first pre-season at the helm, after taking charge from Michael Appleton in March.
Rovers have brought in some good signings this summer, with the likes of Matthew Kilgallon, DJ Campbell and Alan Judge coming to Lancashire to sure up the squad that struggled in the last campaign. BetVictor price Rovers as the outsiders at 27/10 (3.70) to win the match. The same firm price the draw at 12/5 (3.40).
Derby ended last season well at home, winning four of their last five games at Pride Park. Clough has brought in some experienced players this summer, with the likes of John Eustace, Lee Grant and Chris Martin entering the fray and the price of Derby winning at 23/20 (2.15) seems an attractive one for a modest wager.
It’s also worth backing this bet when you consider that Blackburn lost six of their last eight away Championship matches last season.
For those looking for bigger returns, backing Blackburn’s hitman Jordan Rhodes to score anytime at 13/8 (2.63) is certainly worth investing in. Rhodes netted an unbelievable 29 league goals last season, scoring against Derby in all three fixtures between the two sides.
Although the Rams should have too much for the visitors Rhodes still poses a very real goal threat and could get on the scoresheet despite his team looking unlikely to secure a positive result.
