A-League All Stars - Manchester United Betting Preview: Expect Moyes' men to lift the spirits with a resounding victory

The new United boss got off to a disappointing start with defeat in his first game in charge, but Al Hain-Cole expects his men to demonstrate their true quality in Sydney
David Moyes will be looking for his first win as Manchester United manager when his side take on the A-League All Stars in Sydney this Saturday.

The Red Devils slumped to a 1-0 defeat against Thailand’s Singha All Stars in their first pre-season game, but are clear 1/3 (1.33) favourites with Paddy Power to come out on top at the ANZ Stadium.

Australia’s involvement in the East Asian Cup means the All Stars are missing some of the league’s best players, while the absence of foreign stars such as Alessandro Del Piero, Emile Heskey and Shinji Ono makes them a considerable long shot at 13/2 (7.50) to pull off a shock victory.

A draw after 90 minutes would see the match go straight to a penalty shootout, and you can get odds of 4/1 (5.00) on that coming to pass.

While Ange Postecoglou’s men may have taken heart from United’s 1-0 defeat in Bangkok, that upset owed as much to the stifling heat and lack of match fitness as to the performance of the Thai opposition.

With weather conditions set to be far less oppressive in Sydney, Moyes’ team should have little difficulty in finding their rhythm in their second pre-season clash, and will be able to play the game at their own pace.

What’s more, the addition of Robin van Persie and David de Gea to the line-up that came unstuck in Thailand will give the English champions some extra quality that the hosts should struggle to handle, with only a couple of whom having played in major European leagues.

All in all, Manchester United seem certain to entertain the sell-out crowd by putting in an entertainment performance to banish memories of last week’s defeat, and odds of 11/10 (2.10) are too good to miss on a high-scoring encounter featuring over 3.5 goals.

While the inevitable substitutions may unsettle the visitors’ defence enough to allow the Australians to snatch a goal or two, most of the goalmouth action will undoubtedly be reserved to Ante Covic’s area, and there is certainly value to be found in backing United at 11/4 (3.75) to bag at least four goals.
