Moyes' Everton future will hinge on squad investment, says Stubbs

The Toffees boss will base his decision to stay at the club on assurances from the board over player sales and budgets, and not on-field success, according to the coach
Former Everton defender Alan Stubbs believes David Moyes' decision to stay at the club will hinge on squad investment rather than on-field success.
The 41-year-old, who is currently on the coaching staff at Goodison Park, claims an impressive Premier League finish is irrelevant to whether or not the manager pens new terms - with ever-decreasing transfer funds likely to concern the Scot instead.
Moyes, who recently celebrated 11 years in charge at Everton, has managed to maintain a consistently high league finish for the club despite working with a budget dwarfed by many of their rivals – but Stubbs feels his assurances over future investment is now required.
"It’s irrelevant where Everton finish in terms of whether David Moyes stays," Stubbs told the Sports Bar. "The manager would love to finish in fourth place because that would get them into the Champions League.
"But the decision is more off the pitch rather than on the pitch. It will be about his budget. He’ll want assurances about what players get sold and the amount of money that he’ll get to spend from those transfers.
"He wants to see the direction that the club is taking before he commits his future to it. It’s a crossroads for the board as well, not just the manager."
Moyes has insisted that he will not discuss an extension on his expiring contract until the end of the season to announce his future plans.
