Fulham captain Hangeland confident of keeping Bale and Tottenham quiet
The Norwegian captain admits Spurs are currently one of the country’s top teams, but insists his side can beat the Champions League hopefuls in north London on Sunday
Brede Hangeland believes his Fulham side can upset the Premier League form guide and beat Tottenham this weekend.
The Fulham captain will travel with his team across London to White Hart Lane on Sunday, where Spurs have not lost since the start of November.
Andre Villas-Boas' men suffered their first defeat in 13 matches last Sunday, but the Cottagers themselves have only lost once in five matches – to high-flying Manchester United – so make the trip full of confidence.
“I’m sure many will see Spurs as the favourites,” Hangeland told the London Evening Standard.
“But that’s fine, we know what we are capable of and we like to think we can take something from the game.”
Martin Jol’s side sit 10th in the table, but are one of five clubs tied together on 33 points, only nine points above the drop zone.
And Hangeland is all too aware of the challenge that awaits on Sunday, and the job that Villas-Boas has done in his first season in charge at Tottenham.
“They are right now are one of the top teams in the country,” he admitted.
"Andre Villas-Boas has them playing some really good football this term, and throughout their squad they have some very talented players.
"Gareth Bale is in fine form, whilst they also have the likes of Aaron Lennon, Mousa Dembele and Jermain Defoe who can make a difference in the final third."
