Vertonghen insists Tottenham can grab third place in Premier League

The north London side are currently in control of the race for fourth in the Premier League but the Belgian defender believes they should be aiming even higher
Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen has set his sights overhauling third-placed Chelsea in the Premier League, insisting his side "can beat anbody".

A wonder-goal from Gareth Bale helped the north London club to a 1-0 win over West Brom on Sunday, a result which allowed Andre Villas-Boas' men to close the gap to the Blues to just one point.

And with Spurs having missed out on a Champions League place to their London rivals after they lifted the trophy last season, the Belgian defender is keen to eliminate all doubt.

Vertonghen told reporters: "We will be happy with fourth place but we're only one point behind Chelsea,  so we have to aim as high as possible.

"We have a home game against Newcastle  on Saturday, so why not? I've played against all the biggest teams in the League and we can beat anybody."
