Swansea captain Williams: I'm ready to move on from Van Persie incident

Sir Alex Ferguson claimed that his striker "could have been killed" after the Welshman directed the ball at his head in the 1-1 draw but the defender wants to leave it in the past

Swansea City captain Ashley Williams is ready to move on from his altercation with Manchester United's Robin van Persie, in which Sir Alex Ferguson claimed that the striker "could have been killed".

The Netherlands international was hit in the head with the ball by the centre-back's clearance from close range, causing a furious reaction, with the Old Trafford boss accusing the Wales international of deliberately trying to harm his player.

However, the Swans stalwart has brushed off the incident and is more concerned with continuing his side's impressive form in the Premier League.

"What happened [with Van Persie] hasn't taken away any satisfaction from the result. We held the Premier League leaders to a draw, things happen in the game and to be honest I don't really know why everyone has been talking about it so much," he told reporters.

Sir Alex called for Williams to be retrospectively punished but the Football Association decided not to take any further action following his booking by referee Michael Oliver directly after the incident.

The Swans skipper was happy with coming from behind to claim a point against United, insisting that it shows that Swansea can battle to win points while being loyal to their distinctive passing game.

He explained: "Sometimes we get the plaudits for playing nice, attractive football but it's always pleasing to see the other side of the game, where we have to graft and work hard to get a point.

"We had lost our two previous games and it was a big ask to get a positive result against a team of United's quality. We have a lot of respect for them and what they have done, so we should be pleased."
