Wilshere set to sign new Arsenal contract

The England international reveals he will probably be committing his future to the Gunners in the next couple of weeks, in spite of their recent poor form

Jack Wilshere looks set to sign a new contract with Arsenal after the midfielder confirmed that he was in talks regarding a new deal.

The 20-year-old's current contract expires in 2015 and, with talks with Theo Walcott and others still ongoing, manager Arsene Wenger is wasting no time in extending Wilshere's deal.

The England international has recovered from a plethora of injuries that sidelined him, making nine starts already this season, despite not making an appearance last year.

When confirming the situation in regards to his contract, Wilshere referenced the Gunners' poor run of form and appeared unconcerned, comparing their plight to that of West Bromwich Albion's.

"I am talking to the club and I probably will be committing my future to the club in the next couple of weeks," he told Sky Sports.

"I know the team are going through a bad stage at the moment and that is like any team. Look at West Bromwich Albion - okay, they are not as big a club as Arsenal - but they were flying and now they have hit a sticky patch."

Despite his hopes regarding the north London side's future, the 20-year old admitted that big-name departures, such as Robin Van Persie, were difficult to stomach, but expressed his excitement at the players brought in, as well as the possible arrival of Thierry Henry.

"It was hard to take. But then you see the players they have brought in. Mikel Arteta is an experienced player, and [Santi] Cazorla and [Lukas] Podolski, that makes it a lot easier," he continued.

"[Thierry Henry coming in] would be great. He is a legend. He is the best striker I have ever seen. Maybe he is not the best striker around anymore but to play with him and have him around [the] club would be great."
