After a disappointing showing in the Manchester derby on Sunday the controversial Italian has been left out of the champions' squad altogether for the trip to St James' ParkRoberto Mancini has revealed the reason why Mario Balotelli failed to even make the bench for Manchester City's Premier League fixture against Newcastle United.
The Italy international has been left out of the champions' squad for the game at St James' Park with Argentine duo Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez starting up front with Edin Dzeko on the bench.
When asked why Balotelli failed to make the squad, Mancini responded: "He needs to train more."
Balotelli started City's last game, the 3-2 derby defeat to Manchester United at Etihad Stadium, but was substituted shortly after half-time after failing to impress.
Mancini was critical of his striker after the game saying he did not play to his full potential and that City need more from the Italian.
