Maicon looking forward to derby clash with Manchester United
The Brazilian has been involved in some of football’s biggest derbies and is expecting Sunday’s game at the Etihad to be no different and says a win would be a huge boost
Manchester City defender Maicon is relishing his first Manchester derby as he prepares to face Manchester United at Etihad Stadium on Sunday. The 31-year-old has experience of local derbies both in Brazil, when he played for Cruzeiro against Atletico Mineiro, and during his time in Milan and says a win for City on Sunday could give his side a huge boost.
"It is a passionate game, whether you are in Manchester, Milan or Brazil, and I am sure Sunday will be just the same," he told reporters.
"My strongest memory of the Milan derbies was the day Inter won 4-0 [in 2009-10] and we also won the Champions League in the same season. It was a great game, a great derby, difficult to forget.
"All over the world, the derby is a different game to any other.
"I remember playing for Cruzeiro against Atletico Mineiro, at a time when Mineiro were the better team. We won that game, and it changed our whole season for the better.

The former Inter defender is also confident his new club can retain their Premier League title saying that the players are trying to build a legacy at Etihad Stadium.
"We are working for this [the title] every week," he added.
"The bulk of the team that won the league last year is the same, with only a few players coming into the squad.
