Rooney to return for Manchester United's clash against QPR
After missing the last two games against Norwich City and Galatasaray, Sir Alex Ferguson revealed the striker will be back in action against the Premier League's bottom club
Wayne Rooney will return to the starting line-up for Manchester United when they take on Premier League strugglers QPR at Old Trafford on Saturday. The England international was ruled out of the defeat to Norwich last Saturday with tonsillitis, before finding himself left out of the squad that was beaten by Galatasaray in the Champions League on Tuesday, but Sir Alex Ferguson let slip that he will start as United against the top-flight's bottom club.
"Wayne is fit," Ferguson told reporters. "He had tonsillitis last week but he's been training all week, which is good."
Chris Smalling could also return after shaking off a shoulder injury to hand the United boss a major defensive boost ahead of the clash with managerless Rangers, who sacked ex-Red Devils striker Mark Hughes on Friday morning, but Jonny Evans remains a doubt while a hamstring injury will sideline keep Nani on the sidelines.
"Jonny Evans will hopefully train today but I don't know if he will be available," Ferguson added.
"Chris Smalling is available. He had a small shoulder injury but I wanted to play Phil Jones in midweek and I thought he did really well, which is good news.
"Nani isn't available yet. He's still got a problem with his hamstring."
