'You have to commit' - Wenger urges Walcott to pen new Arsenal deal
With the winger hesitating on a €93,000-a-week offer, the Gunners boss is hoping for a breakthrough soon as he cannot feel 'completely at ease' at the club until he does
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has questioned Theo Walcott’s commitment to the club as negotiations over a new contract continue to stall.
With the winger’s current terms set to expire at the end of the season, the Gunners are wary of losing another prominent first-team member following the departures of Robin van Persie, Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri in recent years.
A €93,000-a-week offer is reportedly in the offing, with Walcott holding out for over €110,000 a week, and Wenger is keen for the England international to show his commitment to Arsenal.
"It is very important in our sport to be very committed to where you are, and as long as you do not do that, you are not completely at ease," the French coach told reporters.
"It is important for our squad as well that he is completely committed. I do not doubt it, but as well at some stage it has to be concrete.
"Ideally, he has to commit. It is difficult. I believe you have to commit at some stage.
"If it is not sorted out, we will still be sitting here talking about it in January."
Wenger insisted recently that Walcott will not be sold in January even if his ongoing contract disagreements continue, but the winger will be allowed to speak to foreign clubs regarding a summer move on a free transfer come the New Year.
