I want to play as a centre forward for Arsenal, says Podolski

The Germany international has often been deployed on the left flank since his move from Koln in the summer and, like Theo Walcott, he is hoping to become the attack's focal point

Lukas Podolski has revealed his desire to play more centrally for Arsenal.

Since his arrival from Koln in the summer, the forward has generally been deployed on the left wing, with fellow attacker Theo Walcott currently stalling over a new contract after voicing a similar request.

Walcott bagged a hat-trick in the 7-5 Capital One Cup win over Reading from a central position and Podolski is hoping for some opportunities in that role himself sooner rather than later.

Speaking to reporters after the 2-2 draw with Schalke on Tuesday, the German admitted: "I'd rather play as a central attacker.

"On the left I have to do a lot of defensive work, constantly running up and down. I am not a classical winger."

The former Bayern Munich man is happy with how he has adapted to life in England but is expecting to make a bigger impact before long.

"Arsenal was a change, a different country and a new club," he continued.

"I am getting along well, for sure, but I demand more of myself – I want to play even better."
