The midfielder admitted that the team was massively disappointed with their poor display after missing a great opportunity to capitalise on slip-ups from their rivals

Tottenham midfielder Tom Huddlestone has called for him and his team-mates to work harder in the aftermath of their shock 1-0 defeat to Wigan.

The White Hart Lane outfit missed the opportunity to build a three-point gap between themselves and their competition for fourth spot but failed to take advantage with what Andre Villas-Boas branded "the poorest performance of the season".

Spurs were booed of the pitch at the end of the lacklustre performance and, with an important clash against Manchester City on Sunday, the 25-year-old believes the club cannot afford to put in another below-par display.

Huddlestone told the club's official website: "The lads were angry in there [dressing room]. We've seen teams drop points and we could have cemented fourth.

"At home, we fancy ourselves against anybody, we have for a while, but to create so few chances was very disappointing.

"Wigan made it difficult for us. We just didn't turn up. They defended well but equally, we've got to work harder to create options.

"Normally at home we'll create three or four chances and stick one or two away, but I don't think we created a half-decent effort on goal."
