The Serbian defender has been out since September after suffering a recurrence of a long-standing knee injury but is closing in on a comeback over the festive period
The Serbian defender, who had previously recovered from cruciate ligament damage, has been out since suffering a further knee injury in September.
Goal.com revealed last month that United would not be taking any risks with their injury-plagued skipper and Ferguson appears to be sticking to that plan by delaying the 31-year-old's return.
"I think we're talking around December for Vidic," Ferguson told MUTV.
"Maybe around Christmas time."
Vidic has been with the Manchester club since 2006, but was recently linked with a big-money move to Anzhi Makhachkala.
