Caulker and Tom Lees charged by Serbian police over England Under 21s pitch brawl
The fall-out from the controversial qualifier has continued, with the home team’s authorities charging 12 players and coaches from both sides as well as Serbian supporters
England Under-21s players Steven Caulker, Tom Lees and assistant coach Steve Wigley are among 12 people charged by Serbian police following the on-pitch brawl during the Euro 2013 qualifier earlier in October.
Police in the Serbian town of Krusevac said those charged “committed an act of violence during a sports event”.
As well as Tottenham's Caulker, Leeds United's Lees and Wigley, five Serbia Under-21 players and their assistant coach have been charged for their part in the match.
England went into the match 1-0 up from the first leg, and Connor Wickham’s late goal in the return tie sealed the Young Lions’ passage to next summer’s tournament.
The final whistle sparked clashes with players and officials from both sides and Danny Rose, currently on loan at Sunderland from Tottenham, was sent off after reacting to alleged racial abuse from the crowd.
The Serbian Football Association announced last week the suspension of players Nikola Ninkovic and Ognjen Mudrinski for a year for their part in the melee.
