Sir Alex Ferguson has seen his defensive numbers dwindle through injury in recent weeks but the Northern Irishman is eyeing a regular spot alongside the 33-year-oldJonny Evans is looking to rebuild his partnership with Rio Ferdinand at the heart of Manchester United's defence.
Chris Smalling, Nemanja Vidic and Phil Jones are all currently missing for the Red Devils due to injury and the Ulsterman wants to build up an understanding with Ferdinand, after the pair played frequently together throughout last season.
Evans told United's official website: "I think every defender will tell you that when you have a settled partner beside you, you get a good understanding, and with a run of games your match fitness and concentration go up.
"That’s something I can hopefully build on in the next few weeks."
Ferdinand and Evans are expected to start together against CFR Cluj in the Champions League on Tuesday and after the Romanians' surprise 2-0 win over Braga in their opening game, Evans is not underestimating the tough task United face at the CFR Stadium.
He added: "I don’t think you can go away from home in the Champions League and get lucky if you score two goals and keep a clean sheet.
"They've obviously got a good side and that's something we need to be wary of."
