Rodgers happy with steel developing in Liverpool squad
The Anfield boss is pleased with his side's new-found resilience following recent results, and claims that the character in the team is more important than a new style of play

Rodgers' side have struggled for form in the Premier League, picking up just two points from four games, but with last week's comeback to earn a point at Sunderland – and a 5-3 away win against Young Boys in the Europa League – the 39-year-old feels that Liverpool's luck is beginning to change.
"Everyone talks about the style we [Liverpool] are trying to produce, but what is more important to me is the steel in the team, and we are starting to see that. That will be important for us going forward," he told reporters.
"Our players have been outstanding since I came in here. We haven't had the rub of the green in some of the games but our spirit is getting better and stronger, the more we get to work with each other. You could see that in the last two games."
Of their recent form, Rodgers said: "Sunderland was a difficult place to go. We were 1-0 down having dominated and then in the second half we really stepped it up and the point was the least we deserved. Then, on Thursday [in Switzerland against Young Boys] - that takes character.
"The confidence is fine. There have been a couple of adjustments in terms of what I have asked the players to do, but in terms of their output, it has been fantastic."
With stuttering league form, a visit from Manchester United is probably not the ideal game in which to be seeking a first league win of the season, but Rodgers is looking forward to the Sunday afternoon clash between the arch-rivals.
He added: "This is a game I have grown up with as the biggest game in British football.
"I am looking forward to the game, it is a good test. Manchester United are a terrific side.
"To be involved right in the middle of it is wonderful, and it should be a wonderful game."
