Rodgers arrival has made me more confident, says Liverpool youngster Shelvey
The England Under-21 international is enjoying the added responsibility given to him by the new manager and is hoping he can continue to improve and impress during the season
Liverpool midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has stated that he is feeling more confident at Anfield following the arrival of new manager Brendan Rodgers.
The 20-year-old, who is currently on duty with the England Under-21s, has spoken admirably of his new boss and his joy of being part of the Northern Irishman's first-team plans.
Shelvey expressed his delight at being given the opportunity to prove his worth and believes the Rodgers’ philosophy suits his own style perfectly.
"It's been good. He's given me a fair crack of the whip and I finally have a chance to prove my worth,” Shelvey said in his programme notes before England Under-21's clash against Norway.
“The way the manager likes us to play football suits me down to the ground. I just want to keep going now.

"Yes as well as myself he's given Adam Morgan, Raheem Sterling and a few others a chance to get into the team. I feel I have done well so far with my opportunities. He chucked me in against Manchester City when Lucas got injured. To have the chance to play in a big Premier League game was great for me and I think I showed him I'm ready to play at that level.
"Coming into the start of pre-season with a new manager, you can have doubts as to whether he's going to like you or not. But he's given me a chance and told me that I'm part of his plans this season so it gives you a lot of confidence to go on the pitch and show what you can do."
The promising midfielder, who joined from Charlton Athletic in 2011, has also hailed the positive influence club captain Steven Gerrard has said on his progression and the delight he has playing alongside “one of Liverpool’s all-times greats”.
He added: "Stevie is a massive help and has been there since day one, not just for me but for all the lads. He has given me a lot of advice and he does so much for England not just for Liverpool, like he did at the Euros. He is such a great player and will go down as one of Liverpool's all-time greats.”
