'When I'm on the pitch, I can win matches' - Podolski delighted after first Arsenal goal
The Germany international scored his first competitive goal for the club against Liverpool and is keen to become their latest goalscoring hero following Robin van Persie’s exit
Lukas Podolski believes he has what it takes to become Arsenal’s new talisman after notching his first for the club in a 2-0 win over Liverpool.
The Gunners opened the season with back-to-back goalless draws against Sunderland and Stoke City, prompting suggestions they were struggling to cope following Robin van Perise departure, but grabbed their first win of the campaign at Anfield.

Podolski impressed in the game, scoring the game’s opening goal, and is confident that he is capable of producing match-winning display on a more regular basis for his new side.
"When I'm on the pitch, I can win matches,” the 27-year-old told the club’s official website.
"I'm very happy to score my first goal at Liverpool with their amazing fans and stadium.
"I'm also very happy that we won and got the three points. You must always work hard in matches. You must fight, you must run and you must score goals."
The Germany international is happy with their opening three performances and is ready to give his all as he settles into life in England.
"We played very well in the first two matches,” he added. “But when you don't have the three points, the press write that you play no good.
"But I think we played very well - we just didn't score a goal. This is the Premier League and you must fight and run. This is my style of football - I like the style of Arsenal."
