The Belgium international captained his side to the title last season and conceded the fewest goals of any Premier League side, but this term they have shipped seven in four games
Roberto Mancini’s side have yet to keep a clean sheet after conceding seven goals in their four matches of the new campaign, with Saturday’s result coming after a 2-2 draw against Liverpool, and two narrow 3-2 wins over Southampton and Chelsea. But Belgium international Kompany has dismissed any talk of a faltering defence, insisting that early season form counts for nothing and sides only show their real potential from December onwards.
"It doesn't matter. We've always proved to be solid come difficult times,” Kompany told reporters.
"Come December, January and February we'll show it. At this time everyone tries to play the game nicely.
"We left ourselves exposed but at the end of the season we won't do that."
