Sir Alex confident Rooney and Van Persie will shine as front pairing

The Manchester United boss is adamant his new Dutch signing can be part of a successful duo, and has shrugged off speculation regarding the England striker's future
Sir Alex Ferguson believes Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie will soon flourish together upfront, whilst playing down suggestions that the England striker could look for an exit out of Old Trafford.Van Persie, a €30 million summer signing from Arsenal, was deployed in a lone role upfront for the Red Devils in his home debut against Fulham, and marked it with a sensational finish.
However, Rooney's absence from the starting XI, in a contest which ended with him picking up a leg injury, sparked speculation that he could be deemed surplus to requirements at United.
Ferguson, though, played down such talk, revealing that once Rooney has recovered from his injury, he will look to put the deadly duo upfront together.
"It doesn't bother me, to be honest with you. I am not in the slightest bit interested in it. It doesn't affect me one bit. It could affect him," Ferguson told Sporting Life.

"Players like to be playing every week and that's the horrible part of the game. When you are not playing on a Saturday a player is disappointed. And I'm glad they're disappointed. I was the same when I played.
"Will that fire up Wayne even more? It's not a problem. It's only one game."
On the striking combinations available to him, Ferguson added: "Van Persie is flexible because you can play him in different positions. You can play him from the right side, from behind the strikers.
"Chicharito (Javier Hernandez) is the only one who is a one-position player and that's through the middle. But yes, I can see Van Persie and Wayne playing together. Absolutely.
"It's not easy picking the team. And they know that. I have got a difficult job but the important thing is the end result. If the end is right then we're all satisfied that they have all contributed."
