Lescott to be offered improved contract to stay at Manchester City

The England international has two years left on his present deal but will be offered improved terms in the New Year, despite the arrival of Matija Nastasic on deadline day

Manchester City will give England international Joleon Lescottassurances over his future in the New Year when they will seek to open negotiations over a new contract.

Lescott has formed one half of the Premier League's most formidable central defensive partnerships alongside Vincent Kompany and has become a Three Lions regular since Roy Hodgson's appointment earlier this year.

The former Everton centre-back, who joined City in a £24 million move back in 2009, has two years remaining on his current deal, but the Premier League champions are keen to extend his stay at Etihad Stadium, despite the deadline day purchase of Matija Nastasic from Fiorentina.

Lescott currently earns £90,000-a-week and the title holders will tempt one of their defensive linchpins with the offer of an improved salary and a one-year extension.

The 30-year-old made 45 appearances in all competitions during City's title-winning campaign last season and started all four of England’s matches at Euro 2012, scoring in the 1-1 draw against France.
