Tottenham turn attentions to Marseille star Remy to solve striker dilemma
After failing to tempt Shakhtar into selling Brazilian forward Willian, the north London outfit are ready to reignite their interest in the France international
By Greg StobartTottenham have turned their attention to Marseille striker Loic Remy after being frustrated in their attempts to sign Willian from Shakhtar Donetsk.
Contrary to reports, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy was not in France on Thursday morning to discuss a deal for Remy but the Londoners are expected to make a firm move for the 25-year-old before the transfer window closes on Friday night.
Tottenham have renewed their long-standing interest in Remy as manager Andre Villas-Boas looks for a versatile forward who can play centrally or wide - and the France international fits the bill.
Spurs had expected to complete a move for Willian but fear that Shakhtar will not budge on their €25 million valuation of the Brazilian attacking midfielder, who has been the subject of a failed €14.9m bid from the White Hart Lane club.
Remy would cost around €19m and could join France team-mate Hugo Lloris in north London, with the Lyon goalkeeper expected to move to Spurs in a €15.1m transfer.

Former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp tried to sign Remy in January, but Marseille opted to keep him after qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League.
Remy scored 20 goals in all competitions last season and the former Nice star is keen on a move to the Premier League.
Spurs are trying to tie up a number of transfers in the final stages of the summer transfer window after completing the signing of midfielder Mousa Dembele from Fulham for around €19m on Wednesday.
Porto playmaker Joao Moutinho remains a top target and Spurs are hopeful that the Portuguese club will drop their €37.8m asking price on Friday.
A number of players could still leave White Hart Lane before the 00:00CET deadline on Friday. Rafael Van der Vaart is a target for Hamburg while Michael Dawson, Tom Huddlestone, Jermaine Jenas and David Bentley could all be sold.
