The Italian was speaking after witnessing £35 million signing Eden Hazard notch three assists with goals from Frank Lampard, Gary Cahill, Fernando Torres and Branislav Ivanovic helping the Blues to come from 2-1 down against the Premier League new-boys.
Hazard's superb showing takes his assists tally for the season up to five, in what has been a magnificent start for the highly rated 21-year-old.
Brazilian midfielder Oscar has made two appearances from the substitues bench and Di Matteo was quick to stress his pleasure at how the new recruits have adapted to life in the Premier League, and also said he was happy that established players such as Ivanovic were performing well.
He told reporters: "The new signings have certainly impressed and also the players we already had here were fantastic and I'm very pleased with the performance tonight.
"[Hazard] certainly had an impact on our team, and with Juan Mata as well he linked up very well. He is finding his feet very quickly.
"[Ivanovic] has got two goals now in two games and it's all about our defensive work. I thought he was absolutely fantastic tonight. The other day against Wigan obviously he was great again but tonight I thought he was special.
"I think we are very pleased with six points after two games. I was very happy with the team performance for long periods of the game. We lost our flow after Reading scored their equaliser and second goal, but apart from that, very good, and we finished strongly again.
"I don't know if we will stay at the top, but we are taking it game by game and will enjoy tonight's victory. Then tomorrow morning we will think about the next game."
On Torres' controversial goal to put Chelsea into the lead, Di Matteo insisted that he hadn't seen the incident again and could not say whether he thought it was offside or not.
"I haven't seen it yet. I looked straight at the linesman and he didn't look in any doubt, so I cannot comment," he told the club's official website.
And on David Luiz, who missed out with a knee injury, Di Matteo added that he expects the defender to be fit for Saturday's game against Newcastle.
