Platt: Rodwell can become a star at Manchester City
The member of the Blues' backroom staff has maintained that the new signing has all the attributes to become a stand-out for the Premier League champions sooner rather than later
Manchester City assistant manager David Platt believes Jack Rodwell has what it takes to become a star after the midfielder joined the Premier League champions from Everton.
The England Under-21 international joined the Blues for a reported figure of £15 million on Sunday, with new boss Roberto Mancini admitting that the 21-year-old was bought with one eye on the future, while England manager Roy Hodgson has also expressed fears about the amount the playing time will receive at Eastlands.
However, Platt believes that Rodwell has all the necessary attributes to become a leading Premier League player.
Speaking to The Daily Mirror, Platt said: "Everyone has known about Jack for a long period of time. The longer you keep looking at a player, people will tend to find the flaws and the weaknesses.
"I think he has very good potential and is already a good player now. We feel we have the right platform here to develop his potential to the full. We've had an opportunity to take a player who we believe will be of benefit to us not only now, but in the future.
"The boy has good ability with both feet, and a good tactical brain.
"When he first burst onto the scene, people said he had bags of potential. I don't think he has quite realised that potential yet."
