Sturridge targets Chelsea centre forward role

The 22-year-old struggled to force his way into the first team at the back end of last season after a promising start, and is now looking to establish himself as a striker
Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge is hoping to become a regular starter in the Blues' line-up next season in his preferred position as a centre forward.The 22-year-old made a positive start last season and managed 13 goals in all competitions, but found himself on the fringes on the first team in the second half of the campaign.

"Nobody wants to sit on the bench so it's important for me this season to be playing regularly and show everybody what I'm capable of doing as a centre-forward," Sturridge told Chelsea's official website.
"Collectively, winning trophies is what everybody wants to do. On a personal level, I just want to be playing regular first team football.
"Hopefully this season I'll be playing up front, so whoever the manager signs or wants to bring in, it only gives me the impetus to want to do better. It's important that you take your opportunities when they come along."
Sturridge and Fernando Torres are the only recognised strikers remaining at Stamford Bridge, although the club have been reportedly attempting to sign Hulk from Porto.
After scoring twice for Great Britain during the Olympics, Sturridge is pleased to be back playing after being diagnosed with viral meningitis.
"It was a bit of a rollercoaster," said the former Manchester City player. "I didn't think I'd make the Olympics due to illness.
"It all happened quite quickly. It was a very long recovery, but in terms of the decision for me to go, that was quite quick.
"I was just happy to go. I wasn't feeling 100 per cent when I got there, but I was improving, and in the end I was glad to be a part of it."
